Wicked Weekend To Dublin
On Saturdays 14th December 111 staff and students ventured to Dublin on their broomsticks I mean buses to the Bord Gais Energy Theatre to see the Hit West End Musical ‘Wicked’. ‘Wicked’ is the prequel to the ‘Wizard of Oz’. It explores why the Witch is really ‘Wicked’ and shows us what happened in Oz before Dorothy landed in Munchkinland. The students departed Belfast at 8.30am and by 11am they were exploring the sights and shops of Dublin City. The students made some stops at Molly Malone and Trinity College before spending some hard earned euros in Dublin’s finest Penny’s. The students treated themselves to a range of gifts and enjoyed some lunch in Mc Donald’s at St Stephen’s Green. It wasn’t long before the students were back in the buses and heading to the Bord Gais Energy theatre to see the matinee performance of ‘Wicked’. There was a great sense of excitement in the air and the students were eager to get to their seats. The students were stunned at the show and their jaws hit the floor as the set and costumes were revealed before them. Some of the students were left speechless and left the theatre asking when the next trip would be planned. Anthony Briers a Year 12 GCSE Drama student commented, ‘Miss I have never seen anything so amazing.’ The bus departed the Bord Gais and returned the students to St Stephens Green were they enjoyed a lovely 2 course meal in TGI Fridays. At 9pm a very tired 111 staff and students boarded the bus back to Belfast but still had enough energy to sing some songs from the show, ‘Popular’ and ‘Deifying Gratify’ proved the most popular.
